My Newest Book - My Friend Hootie

I'm very excited to announce that my book "My Friend Hootie" won first place in the Outdoor Writers Association of America children's book contest in Billings Montana. It is available from the author --F. Eugene Hester - (ehester707@cox.net) and can be signed, personalized and mailed for $20. It is also available from Five Valleys Press and other major book dealers. The book has 23 photos taken by the author.

The book is a real-life adventure in which the barred owl Hootie and the author have trained each other in a swamp for more than seven years. When called, Hootie comes for a fish thrown on an island. Children delight in the story and parents and grandparents enjoy presenting it and reading it to them.

My Book - Wood Duck Adventures

I'm very excited to announce the release of my book "Wood Duck Adventures" - it is available from the author, F. Eugene Hester - (ehester707@cox.net) and can be signed, personalized and mailed for $20. It is also available from Five Valleys Press and other major book dealers.

The wood duck is our most beautiful of all waterfowl, and for fifty years F. Eugene Hester observed and recorded their exciting lives. He and his companions erected wood duck nest boxes and observed nesting activities. By banding the ducks and applying web tags to ducklings, they gained interesting and unexpected insight into the lives of these ducks. Excellent photography enhance the observations.

2012 Spring Fishing & Boating Guide

I believe this is my 45th cover photo on the Wildlife of North Carolina magazine. I took this photo of my nephew William while bass fishing at Lake Mattamuskeet in eastern North Carolina.
